Sway bar diameter 230 vs 250/280?
« on: December 01, 2006, 12:58:01 »
Is there a difference in the diameter of the front sway bars for the 230 vs the 250/280?  I just received my bushing kit for the sway/stabilizer bar from K&K and they claim the kit covers all the models, 230/250/280 SLs.  But comparing the new bushing with my old ones (thankfully I always keep old parts until I have my replacements) and the diameter is definitely smaller for the new bushing, 17.7 mm vs 20.7 for the old.  I am just wondering if it supposed to be that tight and perhaps the old ones are just worn?
Thanks
Jason

Hey Jason. Yes, there is a difference. The 230SL bar is larger than the later models. I ran into similar situation -- as the kit I received had the smaller bushings. Different vendor -- equally reputable. I ended up just doing the spindles and rubbers which are the same -- an not the two rubber ones on the bar. I was told you have to drill them or something which sounds hoky to me.
