Sheet metal part numbers?
« on: December 16, 2006, 08:10:32 »

Hi all,
So I am having some repairs done to my "peviously restored"(butchered)1970 280 SL by a good friend of mine (Rick Ollah, one of the best metal men I know)up in Duluth Minnesota. He flew into Cleveland a few weeks ago and drove the car home in 14 hours non-stop. After tearing the car down and waiting for my own hyperventilation to subside we are now in the process of ordering parts.

After looking at the current condition of the outer skin of the rocker panels we have decided to change the outer skin and the screw on cover. However, all the diagrams do not seem to show the outer skin. They show the inner rail,a top cover and a rocker panel.

Can anyone help clear this up?

Thanks,
Pat Price

Pat,
I am not sure whether this helps but the part numbers for the rocker panels (see pic) on a 230SL (chassis # 008769 and later) are
113 883 03 01 (left side)
113 883 04 01 (right side)
Could be the same for your 280SL??
SLS sells the "skin" panels see panel #61a "Info frame rail parts" on their web site:

Alfred,
Thanks for the link. I found a heading under frame rail info that shows that the lower outer skin is part of the entire rocker assy.
Mystery solved.
