VIN NUMBER?
« on: January 03, 2007, 09:15:47 »
NEED SOMEONES HELP!  In order to register my  1966 230sl car in California, DMV has referred my registration completion to the California Highway Patrol.  Both are unable to find the last 6 digits of the VIN #.  The plate had been removed, apparently when painted years ago,  and they are unable to find the last 6 digits anywhere under the hood as well as the side doors.  Although the first 8 numbers were easily found, the CHP VIN Specialist wants to see the last 6 digits somewhere on the car as, stated, to avoid "taking the car apart."  Please note the dealer has sent a fax indicating the car is not stolen, according to the State of Washington, and included a copy of the original owner.  Yet, I still need to find the complete VIN # per CHP.  Does anyone have any idea where I can find the number any place else?
Many Thanks!
Mike Villega

Mike,
Have a look on the right chassis leg in the engine bay under the throttle body area. You may have to scrape off some paint.
It should be stamped there.

Mike,
Check the photo attached to see the exact location of the Chassis # stamped on the car. As Naj mentioned you may need to wipe the paint off in some cases.
