New York Power outage

I am sure you heard (or experienced..) the power outage in the Eastern part of North America.
Well, this power outage gave me the opportunity to see an interesting Pagoda parked in the dark of New York...just wanted to share the story, as it amused me to see a Pagoda while experiencing the mess of ABSOLUTELY ZERO electricity in the entire city!!

While walking last night on 78th street with my flash light in a complete blackened street (no lights, no fire lights, just people with candles or flashlights), I walked by  a red 1968 280sl that seemed to be in average, but all original condition.
I had to stop and inspect it a little...
Nice panel fit, painting seemed original (as I say in average condition), original interior, hard top on, manual gear box...I moved the flash light a little, hoping the owner would be in the area...unfortunately no luck.
However, I did leave a little note...so, I am hoping to see him show up at the Vanderbilt mansion [Parade of Pagodas, 17 August 2003]

It is very rare to see a pagoda parked on the Street in New York.
The ambiance in the City last night made the "finding" even more akward. I just wished I had had my camera : "A Pagoda experiencing the NYC power outage..."

I wish a good weekend enjoying the cars...in Speyer or whereever to all of you!!

We are glad you are OK and are pleased that there was not looting and other crime. It is refreshing to know that in the darkness the Pagoda was still beautiful!

I know one "owner" of a signal red 280 SL in NYC. I even have his number. I was told about his car and may consider buying it.
I can't believe I'm sitting here baking in the Arabia desert ready to provide you with the phone number of your neighbor!

Just returned from a weekend on Long Island. I had to take a BUS to get there because my Pagoda was stuck in a Manhattan garage.  (Evidentally, I was part of the last wave of people who got their power back -- 7 PM on Friday, but by then I had fled to LI)

I am sorry to have missed everyone this weekend at the NY-area Pagoda Parade, but these were truly extraordinary circumstances.

Glad to hear you are safe fabrice & My Pagoda friends in New York. New York showed again the meaning of compassion & should hold their heads high. Total strangers where giving rides to people they did not know, this can never happen in Los Angeles, this was an incredible awe catching experience to see, and New Yorkers handled it with dignity and calm.

My hat is off to you all.

I would be delighted to know about this gentleman (and actually look at his car and tell you what I think about it, if it is of help for you). I do believe however there are more than one red Pagoda in Manhattan...

Bob, thanks for your words...it must be something about big cities...I remember hitchhiking in Paris when I was a student on a day of heavy strike (no busses no subway) and the guy who stopped and gave me a lift was driving a brand new Mercedes 600 SEL...not the typical guy to stop for hitch hiking!!
