Help with wiring
« on: December 21, 2006, 22:32:47 »
Hello all you electrical specialists,
please help me figuring out where the wire in this picture goes to:
Download Attachment: Unknown_wire.jpg
75.14 KB
It is a grey wire that comes out of the harness together with several others that attach to the alternator (generator).  One possibility is that it goes from the ignition switch to the starter .. but if correct then according to Achim's wiring diagram this should be a "violet" colored wire.  Could the color have changed that much in 40 years??  Keep in mind, however, that these wiring diagrams are a lot more confusing to me than the Paris Metro (or London subway) maps, I may be completely off base here.  :(

Yes that is the starter wire, My purple wire had faded to that same shade of grey.
If your starter has been replaced with a SR59x the wire needs to be attached to the smaller of the 2 screws on the solenoid.

Thanks Al,
and especially for your ESP!
I do have the newer SR59X, and that would have been my next question.
