Speed Relay & Switch (1971 Auto)

Hi All,

The Classic Center gave me the following part number for the Speed Relay ... 000 542 9419

They could not provide the part number for the Speed Switch, which is no longer available.

Does anyone have the part number for the Speed Switch that they could post?

I think that there  is a  company in the star magazine that refurbashes these relay switches. "I will look and report back tomorrow. I have the proper foil decals for the two relays but have to know if you have an automatic transmission or manual transmission car. They have the scamatics printed on them.

I sent my Speed Switch & Relay to Beckmann Technologies in Durham, NC for inspection.  They confirmed that the Speed Relay was not working.  They replaced the bad parts (capacitors, ...?) in the Relay and cleaned, tested the Switch.  I expect to receive these back by Monday .  They will be sending me all of the parts that they replaced.  These guys were very helpful, and I can say, provided excellent service & fast turn-around!

Since the Speed Relay & Switch were not working, I am very anxious to get them back, install them and see how my car performs.

 :?: What sort of improvements does the group think I will see?  Basically, I have been driving the car with these relays being defective...

Next week, once I receive them back, I will post pics of the replaced parts and also report back on actual improvements.

After I had my speed relay repaired by Beckmann Technologies and reinstaled I can hear the engine advance when the RPM's get around 2200 RPM's which is about 42 MPH. I have idle speed about 700 RPM's 2*btc above 2300 RPM's timing goes to about 30*atc.  Before I had the relay repaired I temperarily installed extra wires to the 100 temperature switch and through a switch under the dash so that I could manually advance the timing via the 2-way valve.  This way I was able to show that at least that part of the system was working.
Also now if the engine gets a little too warm the 100 degree temp switch will ground and the timing will advance.
