Barrett-Jackson auction results

The big annual Barrett-Jackson auction took place this weekend in Scottsdale, AZ. Wanted to go but couldn't. Supposed to be awesome.

Yesterday Speed channel had coverage of it. Noticed this morning on their website that three Pagodas were in the auction, two 69s and a 70. The 70 looked especially good. Anyone know how much it sold for?

They had four Pagoda's listed on the roster of cars, a 68 250SL, two 69's and a 70. As of this morning the results of the auction were still being verified, and had not been posted.

Looks like the 1970 Silver SL ground up restoration got top price, but then you have to wonder it most of cost more to restore this car than it sold for. So Who ever purchased it got a steal.

I saw that site yesterday but couldn't find the selling prices.  Went back and saw "results" tab and there they were!  

I have a nice '69 280SL so I like to track the prices for nice examples.  High prices in Scottsdale were $38K and $47K.  Makes me feel better about all the money I have in mine!

The pagodas have definitely been trending up, albiet slowly.

And to add a sense of what condition and color can mean, the 68 250SL sold at $19K, and the other 69 280SL sold at $16 ( I think this was the unusual pumpkin color. Unfortunately there were no pictures of the high buck 280SL.

The white 280SL was very nice, I looked it over very well. It sold for $37K I think that was a very good price and should be good news for all of us.

Hi all,

My car was #957 and ran on Sunday afternoon.  It sold for $43,500 plus buyer's fee.  It was the white '69 with Cognac interior.  This is the car that I posted all of the questions regarding the leather and carpet color.  I finished this car at 7:00PM on Wednesday and left for B-J from San Diego at 7:00AM the next morning(driving the car).  That is why B-J had no photos of the car.  I will be posting photos of the car that I took at the auction on my web site in the next two weeks or so.

I didn't see a high dollar '70 silver car.  I will have to check in the B-J results on their page.

Interestingly, my car was purchased by the President of the Veteran Mercedes club of Germany.  I thing he bought it for resale.  This is made possible by the strength of the Euro Dollar relative to the US dollar.

Does anyone else think it may be worth running a 'standing thread' on auction realisations and private sale results to build up a database that might be used to support valuations (e.g. for insurance purposes), or to assist in 'homogenising' the value of our assets?

The Barrett Jackson circus was this weekend. I saw only one Pagoda listed a 1971 280SL. Listed sold at $61,600!! There was one 300SL roadster sold at $575,000 and a 1959 190SL that sold for $72,000 plus 12% buyers/internet premium.

And of course the top sale was $5,500,000 (yes, yes, yes, 5.5 millions) for a 1966 Shelby Cobra 427 "Super Snake" the only one of its kind.

And a circus it was!!!

The 300SL roadster was quite nice, looked like tunis metallic and green interior and top. I did not get to see the 280 SL up close as it was gone by Thursday and we got in on Wednesday night. The Cobra Super Snake went for $5M plus the buyers premium of 10% which gave the final total of $5.5M. There was a 10% seller's premium, too. No wonder the Barrett-Jackson folks are smiling all the time!
