Standard Equipment 65 230SL
« on: February 08, 2007, 14:08:43 »
I was rumaging through my home office and came across the original document folder for my 230SL.  Amoung all the other things (even has operating instructions for the Becker radio and a hang tag that explains how to operate the heating and vent system) was a card that had the "Suggested Retail Price includes the following Standard Equipment" and one section was Mirrors and listed Eterior - Left Side, Inside - Rear View - Non Glare, and Vanity.

My car has an exterior mirror on the right side also.  You can barely see it from the drivers seat because the post blocks most of it so it's not very practical.  Just wondering if that was an option you could order or was it added by the first owner.

Thanks,

David

Right outside mirror was optional. It's option code 502 on your data card.

For that matter, the left outside mirror could have been optional as well in that era, depending on the country. I recall lots of Italian cars from the period not having any outside mirror at all.

My (ex) '65 car also never had any mirrors fitted until 2004.

This has been discussed before but for the early 'goose neck' type mirror to be any use, it has to be mounted further back along the door than the driver's .

A convex mirror lens helps too. (Note:RHD car!)
