Kick Panel Board
« on: August 26, 2003, 16:06:20 »
Hello.

I need to replace the two side kick-panels.  Does anyone know where to get the waxed cardboard?  Or, alternative solutions?
Thanks

Hi- You might check w/ Tom Hanson @ Caliber. Sometimes you can be surprised at what's available. If unavailable or too pricey, you might consider using a cardboard material auto interior people use. The modern stuff is pretty durable & relatively waterproof. You can use the old as a pattern. My 230SL panels have a VERY faint embossed leather graining, but the replacement paneling I've seen does not. If this essential for a show car, you can easily cover with a grained vinyl; if not a show car, nobody will notice/care. I think I still have a piece of the kick panel from replacing those on my Ponton several years ago. If you want to see a sample let me know & I can send you a piece.    -JP-

The cardboard for interior work is what I probably need.  The car is a daily driver, not for show.

The existing panels are covered in leather, but the upholstery was marginal, and the panels poorly fitted.  I have procured a full hide of leather ($90 on e-bay) with the intent of re-doing the entire car, but these kick panels need to go now :-)

Do you know where to get this stuff?
