what about the 'rare options' section of Classic SL. they have some for a lot less than that.

FYI, the ebay auction ended yesterday, and the blank off plate, for a 280SL sold at US$ 100 plus $20 for shipping.

Are there other models where the delete plate might fit our car (ie 280SE?)?  Obviously would need to change the model designation on the plate...

No, the radio delete plates for our cars are metal and an aluminum script.
The sedans and other coupes/cabrios had wood ones with a fancy veneer that matched the rest of the dash with an aluminum script.
I have about a dozen of them and only one 230SL plate.
One could paint the wood one to match and use a script.

Just remember the script is very hard to come on its own. It is not the same size as the one used on the trunk lid (the blank off plate is smaller).

I got a 230sl dash logo from Bud's Benz last month.  It took a few weeks to come in but it's new and it's beautiful.  I also picked up the plate clips from eBay (I bought a 240D delete plate for $10 and just took the clips from it.)  I would've used the plate from the 240D as a stopgap measure but the 230 radio cutout is smaller than all subsequent MBs.  Now I've either got to find a  230sl sized plate or have a metalsmith (?) make one for me.

Hey Steve. Another way to go is similar to my set-up. Get the Becker or Blaupunkt you had in mind earlier -- then put the 230SL logo on the glovebox. See attached. I cannot say I've ever seen another like it... but I enjoy it. One more thing to brighten up the dash. (sorry lousy photo)

A very nice custom touch with the logo on the glove box, just like the 300SL!

Yakes!!! $400.00 for a face  plate. I guess I better start selling some of my rare over stock SL parts like ivory shift knobs and factory hella fog lights and so on.
thats as bad as the red tailight auction form Robert sully 2700.00 for an orginal set . Look but  do not mount these diamonds on your car. Car jewlery  for the must have SL owner.
In exception I hope the classic center is watching some of these ebay sales I would like to purchas a part with out a second loan on my house.
