Favorite Tools

The thread on the Sears tool got me thinking about favorite my tools.  I tried to pick just one, but couldn't.  My first is a wood-handled square shank 12" screwdriver that I "borrowed" from my dad's toolbox when I left home for college...in 1970.  I think it was an antique before I got it but I still use it for many jobs and it is a treasure.  The second is a Sun timing light I bought for my first high-tech tuneup of a 1974 BMW 2002, in '76.  I remember I kicked up for it back then and it still serves me well, it taught me you could never go wrong with the best tool. So what's yours?

Hard to pick just one. I have a set of T-handle allen wrenches that serves quite well. I would also rank the plastic fuse puller tool, that I use to make sure the fuses are all well seated. I would guess we will hear that the Proxom tool kit that several members have procured is high on the list.

In general, just having a good range of metric wrenches and sockets, is also a big plus.

Favorite tool is a magnet on a telescoping rod. Nice to have to get those "hard to reach" screws, nuts and washers that seem to end up in difficult places. If they are stainless or aluminum, I put a piece of tape or something sticky on the end.

Tough choice for a lifelong mechanic with $40,000 in tools. I always said my favorite tool was a bent handle flex head ratchet from Snap-On that almost every other mechanic who has held it hated.

As for 113 tools the special socket for adjusting the valves (Hazet?) is the bees knees. Also the tool for changing the valve seals in the car is a pretty cool one as well.
