No upshift from first
« on: May 12, 2007, 08:23:41 »
I have a 66 230SL automatic. If you floor it and it kicks down to first and you keep it floored like you were drag racing a minivan it wont upshift out of first until you let off, then it goes right to third. It will keep reving, not slipping, but accelerating way past redline. The wiring and double acting solonoid check out OK. Everthing else shifts fine, just, when floored and kicked down into first, no upshift until you let off. I havn't pushed it way past redline, but far enough to see it isn't shifting. Any help would be appreciated, and please, lets give peace a chance.

When I engage the kickdown upon take-off, the shift to second will come extremely quickly. However, when I put the gear selector in '2' (so it will start out in first even without applying the kick-down), it will pull to much higher revs, but not easily to the redline, particularly if I don't (almost) floor it. Moderate gas, and it will shift to second fairly soon. So quite different characteristics from what you describe.
