Windshield Glass Replacement
« on: September 08, 2003, 16:55:58 »
Is the original tinted windshield, totally tinted throughout, or does it just have a green band at the top. I need a new windshield immediately, and do not know if the original SEKURIT brand is worth the $85 premium, and if the clear or tinted is a better choice. I do not remember if my original was tinted or not, and is no longer available. Thanks

Take a look at your data card for glass options.  I believe you could have clear, tinted, and heat resisitant (or heat absorbing?).  The third I think was actually supposed to keep the interior of the car cooler.  Polarized or UV-protection, maybe?

I have Sekurit glass every where except the windshield.  I wish it was the same original type all around.  I don't know how you would feel.

Every tinted windshield I saw in a US-spec 280SL in 1971 was tinted in a band at the top.   I never saw a completely tinted windshield on a W113 back then, and it seemed like they were all tinted, all exactly the same, all  iridescently lined up at the California dealerships.

I also replaced my windshield a few years ago -- the official Sekurit tinted piece seems the only choice with that reassuring little three-pointed star down in the corner.
