I just joined and one of my contacts highly reccomended this site. I just purchased last February a 1971 280 SL Pristine Ivory with Dark Brown Interior with a brown convertable top. Love the car. Have all of the history and want to know what these cars are really worth.Mechanical is in great shape was restored in 1999. Three (3) owners and two were mother and son.

SVJCCIM,

You've come to the right place.

We love our cars and most of us are sanguine about what the market says.  Depending on its true condition and/or hidden defects, your car could be worth $5000 or $50,000.  But it's priceless for its coolness, magnetic beauty, and the joy it brings.  Spend some hours looking through the threads on this forum and you will find all the items for your evaluation checklist.  Then decide, based on what you find other owners have or have not done, whether you want modern creature comforts or absolute originality.

Practically speaking, first I'd look for rust...

I would agree with Rodd.  Get hold of John Olson's SL Market newsletter, esp. the latest issue that has the W113 valuations.

Cheers,
Michael

You can look at the current values that Olson is quoting, but you should also try to learn up about what consitutes "great shape" and proper restoration for a Pagoda. Welcome & good luck.
