280sl back on the road
« on: September 05, 2007, 21:26:37 »
My 1971 280sl is finally back on the road!  My wife & I took a train to SL Tech in Arundel Maine, picked up the car from Gernold, then immediately set off on a week-long drive through Maine, Nova Scotia, then back to Connecticut.  Much fun!

That is Gernold himself in the picture.... visiting with Gernold in Arundel is sort of like meeting with Yoda, Master Jedi.  I recommend the experience to any member if you are in the neighborhood and Gernold is available

Wow... your car looks great. I love the Grey/Red combination. Very classy. And the engine bay looks so clean (well, compared to mine that is). Did you have a full restoration done ?

Beautiful car.  My elderly mother can't believe I say I'm not finished working on my restoration.  Maybe a picture of your car will help her understand that I, and most of us here, have a long way to go.

It is DB124 Arabian Gray, the interior is dark red. The seats and dash pads are darker than they show in the picture, they are the maroon as the passenger door panel.  It is a 1971, the vin# is 20639, perhaps it was built in 1970?  I live in Southbury, CT and will take it to the Southbury Car Show, see www.roaring-20s.org.  We toasted Gernold's work with a few Blue Moons.
