1967 250 sl

I'am a new owner of a 1967 250sl and I'am having a problem after the initial start up.  Once the car is shut off it will not start back up for at least 30 minutes or so.  Can anyone shed some light on this problem?

Hello,

You're most likely having hot-start issues. There have been many prior discussions on this subject here. Try doing a search on "hot starting" or "vapor lock".

Try what the manual says, hold the throttle halfway down and report back.

Hello Tony,

Use a 12 volt test light on the solenoid on the rear of the injection pump. On a 250SL it should energize anytime the starter is engaged. If your injection pump has two solenoids, test the one on top . This solenoid enriches the fuel mixture by moving the rack in the injection pump to full rich when the starter is activated.

Another good and inexpensive place to start is by changing the fuel filter. A plugged filter lowers fuel pressure and volume making starting more difficult.

Tony, Welcome to MB land.  (You're not F. I. A. T. ony, I hope).  After the engine is stopped, it sounds like it is not getting fuel.  Squirt a little Starting Fluid(1/2 second or so) into the idle air hose and then turn key to Start.  If it fires, then the fun begins- to find the 'lack of fuel' cause.
