I know this should be in the wanted section but I thought I'd ask here..are there any roof racks around or are they as rare as I think they are?

Extremely rare. They occasionally come up on ebay, but only every couple of years. I'm hoping someone here will take the initiative to fabricate one. The only hard part about that would be sourcing the clips.

I bet it can be replicated in Poland or Taiwan for a very reasonable price. It's where Anton Ostermeyer had his 300sl knockoff parts made.
Anyone have any connections?

You guys my ears must be burning. I see no problem duplicating the luggage rack only the intricate lock system may take a good engineer to figure out. But I am sure the luggage rack can be duplicated. quite a number of years ago there was a company in the 1960 and 1970s you may recall named Amco they sold luggage racks for british cars. Robert Hiddman Jr. the PR person for the company was the person with all the contacts, If I could fine him I bet he would no how to do this.

Bob,
Thanks for your comments here. Yes, perhaps that's a good idea to contact him and discuss a possible reproduction.
BTW, do I remember that correctly, don't you have the original roof rack with your car??
Best,
