T Star super horn
« on: December 17, 2007, 23:40:22 »
I found these horns at the service center  who moved in to my old work location. They are boxed to look like the orginal Bosch horns of the  1950s & 1960s but are made in Tawian.

They sound the same if your back was turned you would think it was a mercedes-Benz behine you. These horns seem to be the same size as orginal and have the same weighty feel although they make hook up more modern.
I found these on Ebay doing a search for Bosch horns. Price I found is $100.00 I have seen them as high as $350.00. I am not suggesting this as a replacment for the factory horns on our pagodas, just an alterative till some of uss can have ours restored.

I posted two pictures in the photo section. The distributor I found on Ebay and since I took these photos I will ask them to compare what is in my pictures.

Received my horns last week and can honestly say that they are very similar to the original horns.  They only visible difference is the center Bosch tag, the electrical connection and the bracket.  It is a heavy unit and I would say it weighs about the same as the original.  The holes on the front grill seem to line up with the original making this an excellent candidate for spare parts for the originals.  I'll get back on the sound once I have had a chance to test them out.

I'm not so sure...

Shipping Location Bangkok??  And for $89 shipping cost, I expect them to install it and give me a steamed towel too. 8)

Pete,

As one who sells regularly on eBay, when you put in the shipping information, you only have a few choices (USPS and UPS) and not all of those vendors actual choices are available on eBay's built-in service.  Understand also that all shipping rates have skyrocketed especially overseas ones; Bangkok is about as far away as you can get from the USA.  Also, some sellers throw on a handling fee.  If I have to drive 10 miles to get to DHL, or if they charge a pickup fee (many do, to residential addresses; UPS even charges additional fees for residential delivery)that would have to be added in.  The rates on the calculators at ups.com, fedex.com don't include fuel surcharges, etc. which they nail the shipper with as well.

The eBay calculator always seems to over-estimate, too.  I just did a quick look-see and the cheapest shipping for an 8 pound package from here to Bangkok is $55.  Add insurance, delivery confirmations, etc. it all adds up.  $89 is high but not that high based on eBay's calculators.  Fedex was about $130.  I know the horns weigh at least 8# in a set.

Pay careful attention to where things come from!

[:0] Wow! I didn't know shipping was that expensive, but then I don't ship things to that part of the world.

But what I was really trying to imply was that maybe these weren't authentic Hella horns.

Hi Pete,

Yes they very well might be Hella horns.  Check out this link:

Oh yes, you can get them new.  From Pennsylvania.  I'm quite certain the shipping is a bit less!!! ;)

Here's another view from the Hella website.  http://cat.hella.com/hella232/jsp/search/advanced/Frameset_ButtonBar_Bottom.jsp?nologin=yes&selectedObject=CS@Hella-USA@CT@F04

I'm not surprised that we now have these reproduction Bosch style horns since the originals have become such a hot item with thieves.

The distributor for the Super T horns is in north Hollywood Called (Express Body Parts) (818) 764-6629 office E-mail at expressparts@yahoo.com
They carry a wide rang of custom after market grills and tailight unites for the newer Mercedes-models. $100.00 plus California tax I consider it a bargin. Mine you these are not Orginal just  good copies and it sound like every one is jumping on the band wagon to reproduce copies. I would think perhaps the orginal manufactor would see this and just reproduce the orginal again.
