Powder Coat Overflow Tank?

Hello!

Has anyone powder coated their brass overflow tank?

From what I understand, the brass tanks are 3 pieces soldiered together.  The powder coat process requires heating the painted surface, so am concerned that the heat may melt the soldier.

Anyone have any direct experience with this?

Hi Bob,

I’ve had my header tank powder coated and when I took it in I do remember a discussion about soldered or brazed joints. If I remember rightly there was a trial process to check suitability and I think it was decided that the joints were brazed. In the end I went ahead with no problems. He did say if it had been soldered it would have just fallen apart in the coating process. I had this done about 2 years and 10,000 miles ago and no leaks. Hope that helps.

Thanks for your reply and direct experience!  I guess it would make sense...brass being brazed....

I will also let this group know how mine turns out.  I currently have it at the powder coaters.....

Hello colleagues,

Yes, I have "learned" the same.
My 230 overflow tank is mostly soldered and was "test-baked" at 200 °C before possible coating; it came apart. Thus, my tank could not be powder-coated ...
