Arm rest

Years ago I had a fintail and it had a removable armrest that sat in the change tray between the seats. So two things..1. do we think that this would fit into our cars and  2. if yes, does anyone have one for sale?

I have seen this on a couple Pagodas, including Klaus Drexl's car.  I also think I've seen them in our For Sale or Wanted forum.  I don't know if these are from Fintail (Heckflosse?) sedans or custom made units.

I believe there was an armrest made for the wooden center console of a 108 sedan that fits.

Klaus' fits well as well, but it's for a much later sedan, as I recall. (Or maybe it was made for a W123 Coupe?)

I think it depends on your definition of 'fits'.

The armrest I have is from a 108 and is the exact same length as the pagoda's wooden tray (measured from the outside of tray edges). The width is identical from the rear, but about 5mm wider on each side from the front (again, outside measurements of wooden tray).

Didn't have my camera handy, but I'll take some pictures tomorrow alongside a spare pagoda center tray I have.

On the other hand, my 111 coupe center console armrest is tapered such that whilst it sits completely within the wooden tray, the upper portion extends out to cover the top edges of the tray. Of course, this is for a 250se, which still had the wooden center tray; the 280se coupes/convertibles all had plastic center trays (ugh!). In fact, the 280se shed quite a lot of wood and chrome. I don't understand why they are the most in demand (unless you have a 3.5) ...but I digress.

Hi Paul,

I just went to a local coach trimmer and he made me one about 4 years ago, I think he charged about £15. I just measured where my arm came to and gave him the centre tray with length and height dimensions for the rest and he made it from some very firm foam rubber and covered it in black tex (which I obtained seperatatley from Kevin O'Keefe). I wanted it to be as short as possible so there was still some space in the centre tray and it ended up about 2/3rds the length of the tray. It fits and works well and I now find the car quite uncomfortable to drive without it.

I meant to post these earlier. This is the w108 arm rest in MB-Tex pictured alongside my old pagoda tray. Indeed, MB kept the sizes almost identical, although the plastic tray in the w108 is slightly larger to accommodate the arm rest.

Well... there is a long story of dashed opportunities and missed deadlines etc.....I have invested a lot of time and energy and still not quite achieved my goal of having enough stock ready to launch ....but....with the prospect of 6 months of recovery ahead, this might be the opportunity I've been waiting for....the web site is done and most of the product development is done...now to get a reasonable amount of stock ahead before returning to the 6,000 sq. ft. house that I didn't quite finish the roof on, before my ticker issue....
