what is the factory location of these mirrors?
I quote Richard Hattaway here:
This is for the “swan-neck” type outer mirror. Draw a line parallel to the outside edge of the window trim and 30 mm away from it, along the door panel.
This is the center line for three holes to be drilled in the door.
The first hole center is 46 mm back from the door front edge along this line.
That hole is 10 mm in diameter.
The second hole center is 72,5 mm back from the same front edge, and is 6 mm in diameter.
The third hole center is 91 mm back from the front edge, and is 12 mm in diameter.
Please understand that this is how it is on my car, which is original, and presently from which the mirror is removed.
Also, this is only the drivers side.
/Richard HattawayMy comment: The passenger side swan-neck mirror was set further back. I don't have an exact measurement, but around 80mm.
Perhaps just have an assistant move the mirror base rearwards along the 30mm line, until the whole mirror face can be seen by yourself
when sitting in the drivers position, i.e. when the mirror face clears the A pillar. Position mirror there.
The supporting metal plate inside the door skin that Richard Madison mentions is absolutely essential
