couple of questions
« on: October 17, 2003, 19:58:39 »
Putting my dash together this evening, and the new radio speaker will not go into the hole. It is exactly the same size as the one that came out. Do I have to loosen the wood first?
Is there a gasket between the cold start valve and its solenoid?
Where do I connect the wires to the light on the glove box door? The wires are the same color, oddly enough.
Thanks,
Joe

When fitting the speaker try moving your heater levers around to different positions. They are very close in there.
The parts catalogue on CD doesn't show the CSV dismantled.
The light switch wires and the glove box door wires connect via the wiring harness.
Mine had a broken wire so I connected a Positive 12 volts from the under dash light switch fitting and fitted a new switch because mine was missing.
I bought it from a electronics hobby store; it must be able to carry about one amp.

There is only a small rubber ring between the CSV and the solenoid. It's listed in a catalog I have here for 11 euros (!). If you still have it and it appears in good shape, that should be all you need.

I got the speaker in ok. Once I removed the screw (just over the radio) that holds the dash cover, it was easy.
Now I need to know where the wires to the glove box light attach. They both have screw loops on their ends, but I can't figure out where the screws are. I sure miss my memory.

Joe, the glove box light wires connect at a small bakelite terminal thingy behind the glove box, on the side of the heater flap box.  You can see it with the glove box removed, or with the underdash closing panel removed.  The terminal has two screws, and there should be two wires with terminal eyes attached to the terminal thing.  I am not sure of the polarity, but it seems to not matter.  The screws are hard to see if you look in through the glove box hole, because the bakelite terminal hides them from that direction, but they are easily visible if you can look from the side (mirror helps).

Thanks, George, I suspected that terminal. It already has wires to it. Do I put two wires on each screw, or are the wires I put there before to go somewhere else? Can't remember where they go.

Joe, yes, you put two wires on each screw.  That terminal just connects the glove box wires to that other pair of wires.  One of the other pair should be hot (all the time?), the other should be ground.
