Non starting
« on: March 25, 2011, 19:48:24 »
Hello forum ,

I've got the following problem . After a good run today with my overhauled rear axle and restored underside I found my car really revived in handling and was vary happy with the result of my winter project . But when I turned on the freeway and started revving up and doing about 130 ...140 kph , I noticed pinking and hiccups in the engine . Tried it at several revs and the pickup was bad .
Now my first thought was ignition because it feld like that . The only thing I changed during my winter project was the coil and ballast resistor ( the red bosch coil with 1,8 ohm resistor ) but still with the original distributor . The 123 ignition was not installed yet .
But back to my drive . After taking the exit on the motorway and coming to a stand still to make a turn , my engine stalled completely . And you guessed it , no more starting what so ever . So to make long story short , was towed home and started looking for the reason . Like I said I thought ignition but I had a spark ( not a big spark , but there was a spark ) and the new fuel pump gave plenty fuel . Then I installed the 123 ignition and because maybe my points were a bit burned and pittit . I must admit the 123 was not on time but close ( test bulb ) .....nothing not even a misfire ...it turned but no fire . Then looked at the fuel lines that come from injection pump  and turned one loose .....a few drops but no real pressure ....could this be a reason ?  But by now my battery was low so couldnot test any further .    Maybe I'm looking in the wrong direction but is there anybody that could give me some tips how to go with this ?

Thanks in advance

Found out the problem , after changing the resistor ( 1,8 ohm witch was getting hand burning hot ) it ran smooth again .
Apparently this has a big influence on the ignition .
