Debt of Gratitude

Miscellaneous ramblings this morning:

First, we all owe a debt of gratitude to Dan Caron, who over the years has selflessly shared his hard-earned experience with us all.  As you know he left our Board of Directors and has cut back on his public posting particularly technical ones.  Nonetheless, we all owe him a big thanks for all he's done over the years.

Second, "Maybe not today. Maybe not tomorrow, but soon and for the rest of your life" we'll all owe a debt of gratitude to Bob Possel, who is well on the way to completing his complete "rotisserie rebuild" (n.b. his wife thinks it's just a repaint! ;) )and had been generous in sharing what he's learning along the way.  What's particularly great about Bob's project is he's documenting everything and this is very valuable information.

Wow Mike,

That is nice of you!  I hope that I can live up to your nice comments. Clearly Dan has lots more years and direct experience than I have.  I only have 4 years +.  My experience is the sum of this site and its members.  With all of your help, I have been able to live a dream of restoring a beautiful, classic Mercedes-Benz.  What a thrill and I hope that I can help others do the same.

I'm doing well and I'm very busy right now working on several projects. Two 190SL's, 220SE Cab, 220Sb sedan, 560SL,two 250SL's, 230SL, 300SE ( 112 sedan )and a few other smaller projects.
 
Although I left the board recently I'm still dedicated to seeing this club become even more sucessfull in the future. Sometimes these things can be acomplished at the front and other times they can be guided from behind the scenes. Anyone here, including the board members are certainly welcome to contact me for my brillant insight into all things that no one else can understand ( LOL ) I'm sure we can puzzel over the finer details of 300SL fuel injection or the mysteries of 190SL carbs. If you have any hints on how to fix leaking/dripping accelerator discharge pumps on 190SL's, I'd be very interested to know. Nothing I've tried so far works, including a partial rebuild that should have fixed this vexing problem.

I'm still very much around, but as Mike says I'm concentrating my ( limited ) energy towards my operation which takes up more and more of my time. Depsite what might of appeared to the contray a while back, I'm still very solid with everyone here and everything is just fine. No problems at all......

Bob, when somebody like Joe or Dan--or perhaps Al Lieffring or other long-experienced mechanics attack a problem, it's very different then when a mere commoner (that would be people like you and I, and I dare say, a good deal of the rest of us) does it.  You've probably taken more photos of your process than most, and the knowledge you gain will be easier to relate to the rest of us.

We all can't wait to hear of the first successful run of your car--and then the inevitible "punch list" or sorting out you'll do.
