headlamp alignment

Gentlemen
I know that there are screws at the sides of the reflectors to adjust the angle but is there a special way of aligning the direction of the beams ? I'm meaning what do we aim at. I'm assuming that it can all be done without having to keep refitting the lenses.
I'm talking gibberish....does anyone know what I mean? My beams are inexplicably all over the place.

Paul,
Have a look at the wiki:
http://www.sl113.org/wiki/pmwiki.php?n=Electrical.EuropeanLamp
Go for the two main adjuster screws. One does up/down while the other does side to side. Can't remember which one does what. See Owner's manual.
There is a similar adjuster further down to adjust the fog lamp side to side.
The adjuster screw heads are different to the ones holding the lamp to the chassis.
You only need to remove the chrome surround to adjust.
Park the car about 20ft from a wall so you can see the beams.

Note: The picture shows LHD lights with the right side lit up at an angle.
RHD lights will have the angle lit up on the left!
Alternatively, ask them to be set at the next MoT. They have the beam setting machines.
Any help??

Naj, thank you, it's a real help and with the aim of saving using another pair of rubber gloves, I'm off to the garage on Monday.
