Hi,

It could be 571 red metallic but difficult to be certain just from a picture taken indoors.

It is a sort of burgundy... definitely not red!
It also seems this color exists on 71 280SL's

I think it might be 501H Orient Red.

Have seen one here and the Tech Manual does not show the colour like the real thing.

.... Can anyone please identify the color code of this car?
???  Why can you not get the data card for the car and verify the paint code that way?

The three pictures you show are as I see it all of cars with color 571, Mercedes calls it red.
If it's a correct color for the car and year I don't see what other color it could be.
The only other red/burgundy metallic would 567 which  is a much
darker maroon/burgundy color and which definitely does not match the color in the picture.

I think you mean the 573 and not the 567.
There is 576 though which looks nice in this link: http://www.sl113.org/wiki/DataCard/PaintCodes

Seems to me that you're not able to distinguish between solid colors and metallic colors.
The color of the car you asked about is clearly a metallic color and the color code is probably what I already suggested.
The only red/burgundy metallic color aside from 571 is 567 glazing maroon.

That's what I wrote and that's what I meant.

I believe Hans is right.
Here's another 571.
