Northern Virginia w113 Gathering October 26th
« on: October 14, 2003, 05:59:18 »
Please join us in the 2nd Annual (do I see a tradition building?) Northern Virginia W113 Gathering at my home in Alexandria, Virginia on Sunday, October 26th.  This is a “short-notice gathering” which should give you some indication that it is a more casual outing as contrasted with an “event”.  This gathering proved popular last year as a number of pagoda owners showed up for some technical "triage" for minor ailments (no engine rebuilds occurred to my knowledge), fellowship and good chili.

Fellow owners will help other owners with issues they have, show their cars and see some interesting vintage accessories.  We will have ski racks, original luggage, and original trouble light.  There will be an original Pagoda with 14,000 documented miles as a reference car, complete with its original Continental tires with rub stripe.  We may have a small “swap meet” where owners can exchange or sell parts.

Finally, hot chili and cider will again be the featured menu item.

Please send me an email to classic280sl@yahoo.com if you can attend and I will be in touch with details.

Achim,

You are very kind.  We missed you in Blacklick this year.  Hopefully we can identify another European venue to have a meet/tech session in 2004 so that we can get the US and European members together again.

Best,

Group,

Directions to the October 26th Mid-Atlantic W113 event will be sent Wednesday, October 22nd via email to those that have indicated an interest in attending. We already have a good sized group that is planning to assemble, and if you are interested, send me an email to:

Classic280sl@yahoo.com

We will have Pagoda World issues for those attending and limited supplies of The Mercedes Collector magazine published in the early 1990's.  Both are fabulous, fact filled publications that you don't want to miss.  Both are free for those attending.  Of course, great chili and apple cider will be served, so come hungry!

We plan to start between 12:00 and 1:00 pm on Sunday, October 26th.

Best,

Chuck,

That's great-will send you information on logistics tomorrow.  Look forward to seeing you and your wife again (we met at Deale as I recall).  Don't forget to bring that gorgeous red pagoda!!!

Richard,

Fabulous!  Everything is set and you have all my numbers for when you arrive in town.

Looks like a good crowd will be gathering, New York, Atlanta and Pennsylvania will be represented along with a number of folks from the Washington-Annapolis-Virginia area.

Looking forward to a great time on Sunday.

Best,

Hi Tom,
I wish I could attend the gathering!
It would be a great experience and fun for those attending. Comparing notes and seeking advice is what makes the gathering a great school!
Best wishes Tom.

Hello Tom,
Sorry I am not able to attend. Too many commitments at work. I will try to plan for it next year. Looks like a nice crowd.
It would be a wonderful drive with the fall colors!

Bob, Joe:

You will both be missed.  Joe, the drive taking I-68 (the mountain route to DC) would be stunning at this time of the year.

Next year, the planning for this event will take place earlier so that more can attend.  That being said, looks like a good size crowd will be gathering.

Group,

We had nice weather today for the 2nd Annual Mid-Atlantic W113 Gathering.  A total of 15 cars were present with 22 fans.  Richard Madison, our beloved web master and Klaus Drexl get the award for the longest distance to the event, both coming from the New York Area.  Others making the trip include Jim Villers from Virginia beach and Mike Hund from Pennsylvania.

We by passed the technical session and went straight to working on cars.  At least one rear differential mount was replaced on the spot, and triage was performed on Richard Madison's car (points were closed and clutch master acting up).  Richard also fixed some annoying rattles.  Some electrical trouble shooting and one clutch spring issue was diagnosed.

Also reviewed rare options, including luggage, trouble lights and ski racks.  Original Continental tires with rub strip were displayed and one owner (Mike) had an original Phoenix with rub strip as a spare.  Some good original documentation was displayed as well.

Here is one photo-note rear differential mount being replaced.  More to come later.

Best,

Tom

A shout-out of thanks to Tom and his family for hosting the spur-of-the-moment event; and a testament to his knowledge and lore that so many would rally to attend! And speaking of rallies, next year (at of course the Third Annual) we MUST do the Mount Vernon loop, an utter shame when it is so close...!

Thanks again,
Lanier

Tom ... Thanks again for a very enjoyable and educational afternoon, (the chili was also appreciated).  Your "bubble car" is exceptional to see.  Put me on the list for next year.

Tom,
Thanks so much for hosting the event. It was my first such event but it will not be my last. It's great meeting the faces behind the posts.
And please say thanks to your neighbors for us. We took up a lot of their parking spaces. And it was fun to meet a few of them as well.
