Soft top frame adjustment
« on: July 27, 2009, 19:02:38 »
I just got my soft top frame and installed it in the car. It took about an hour.  Could someone with a 66 230 SL take some close up pictures of the springs and mounting points so I can see if I have everything correct? send them to (bada208@gmail.com) or post on this tread.  Is there a shim plate that goes under each mounting plate?  I slid some home  made metal shims under one of them and it seams to go up and down ok but there is very close tolerance to latch the cover.  I think it could be a little better but it works. I want to get it as best as possible before I put a new canvas on it.

I had a great time at Blacklick this weekend and everyone was very helpful with all my questions.
Thanks,
Brad

I just bought a handful of shims that bolt on with the top frame.  Is there a set height for this to work properly?  Any tips would be helpful.  Thanks

The shims are there to match the height the rubber window seals to align with the door glass.
So first the door glass needs to be set to align with the rubbers on the hard top. After the door glass matches up with the hard top, the soft top can be shimmed and or slid forward or back to so the soft top seals match up with the door glass.

How is the door glass adjusted?  The driver side door glass could be brought down about 1 mm to make it perfect.  Right now with the hard top it is a little to high.  Also for the soft top adjustment from what you replied I need the soft top to have all new rubber and replacement parts installed before I shim it into place???

Hey Brad.
Sorry can't help you out too much unless you want some pics from a 250sl.

How's the house going?

Hi, Brad,

Have a look in the wiki:

http://www.sl113.org/wiki/ChassisBody/Windows

There are adjustable stops (3?) on the glass bottom rail that can be adjusted to stop the glass from coming up further than you want.

Chan,  I finished the garage walls and am starting the ceiling.  It will be insulated before winter.

Naj,  Thanks for the link to adjust the windows.  I will adjust it when I replace the spring on the door check.  Hopefully it won't be too difficult.

Thanks
Brad
