Windsreen (windshield) Washer Power

Hi, (from Cardiff - UK)
I am new to this Forum, and have just bought a 1967 250 SL, having lusted after a Pagoda for many years.

The Windscreen Washer is not working, I have tested the pump and that is electrically operational - however it does not receive any voltage when the indicator control stalk is pushed forward. (Indicators, Wipers & Flasher work ok)

Is there a relay somewhers for the washer pump ?
Where can I find a wireing diagram for this item ?

Hi, Paul,

There is no relay for the washer pump.
The washer pump is energised directly from the multi-function switch.

Wiring diagrams are available in the Tech Manual but I believe they are restricted to full members...

Whilst getting ready to investiate the multi function stalk, I have found that a previous owner had discretely fitted an additional switch - to operate the washers - hidden under the steering columnn.

I had previously asked my predessor how the washers worked, but he said they had never worked since he had the car.

I am leaving well alone, and adding to a winter worklist.

Hello Paul,

it <<should>> work.
Sometimes it is necessary to press the switch forward a bit harder since the contact points are a bit "unused" or dirt has settled or so.
If that doesn't help (with your addtional switch on-and-off) it's necessary to do a little more research

a) disconnect the under dash bakelite plug (male unit) for the column switch and check out the contacts , especially whether there is current between the violet-white (purple-white) and the violet-yellow wire/contacts when the switch (for the washer) is engaged.
b) Are the corresponding contacts of the electrical socket (female unit) okay?

Thanks Achim,
I will investigate further under the dash and post the result - I suspect this may be a winter rebuild of the multi function switch ( after reading the excellent description given on this forum), - its operation is a bit "loose" and the indicators do not self cancel.

The washers operate when the "additional" switch is used - so a previous investigator has probably not had the benefit of this group and just bypassed the original stalk control.

Update:

Checked out the 12 pin connector, and there is no connection across  Pins 8 & 11 when the washer stalk is moved  so this is an old problem here, and the "additional" washer press button is wired up to the multi function switch itself.
Every thing else is operational so I will add this to my Winter work list for now.

Previous owners have had a good time with the electrics on this car, and I have now reinstated the following:-
Glove box light - cables missing - plug disconnected
"trunk" light - cables cut off and taped over at loom / others cut & hidden in lid
Rear Left side lighting unit - cables cut and taped over - connector broken
