Embrace this Seat Belt Video
« on: July 07, 2010, 06:37:08 »
Story goes, the chap made the video as he wanted to rather than he was paid to as part of some initiative

Now we are at it...
There has been a lot of campaigns like this in Denmark. about seatbelt, about speeding etc.
I think these are brilliant films and I do believe that these did in fact gave a lot of people new habits - for a while... the images dont stay in your mind forever...

These are 2 in a series with the same shooting.

In the beginning he says " I Wish I could turn back time"
In the end it says at a difference of 10 kph would have saved the boy.

when the law came in, my dad had a sensor put in so that the car would not start without the seatbelt in. Worked a treat
Unless the car went to the garage and they could never start the bloody thing

Without being too perjorative, I tend to think of people who don't wear seatbelts as people who the NHS should not treat....For me it's like riding a motorbike without a helment

The best way to extend your life, if you don't smoke is to wear your seatbelt.

Don't know about the UK but it is the law here to wear a seat belt.  Cops will often set up check points at highway on ramps.  Automatic fine if you are not wearing a seat belt.

Also saw a H&S film about a year ago.  They were talking to a long serving state highway patrol officer in the states.  He says he has seen lots of dead bodies at highway accidents, however he has never seen one wearing a seat belt.  Kind of makes its own point.

Having broke through, eaten and tasted the windscreen of a 1968 MG-C GT on December 19, 1975 at about 3:30PM (you do not forget these things) while sitting on somewhat useless and awful Kangol seat belts, the FIRST order of restoration on my 113 was not just seatbelts, but 3-point retractables.  I would NEVER drive in a car without them, period.  Lesson learned.

I was only a passenger, and I thank my lucky stars that the brakes were working on that MG.  My driver friend had just tuned things up and we had that 3-liter straight 6 roaring that car at over 100 MPH just minutes before.  Those Kangols, similar to those on other Brit cars we had, were difficult at best to adjust.

I guess some people feel "safe" with lap belts only, and others feel "restricted" by safety belts in general.

It was a nice video iin that it did not need to show death and destruction to make the point.  Thanks Tosh.

I find the "conspiracy theories" about the death of Diana, Princess of Wales laughable

4 people in that W140 S class (which let's face it is built like a brick outhouse). 3 were not wearing seatbelts, and the one that was is alive and well, 13 years later. The conspiracy theorists thought of everything except the pesky butler and his 3 point belt

Funny to think that when the law was brought in, there was genuine outrage at the government taking this stand against liberties.  ::)

I give a presentation to students about my work (which is not road safety related), and need them to be "emotionally primed" before we begin. I explain that the video does not relate to the topic in hand, but find it has a powerful message....

I haven't watched any of these videos because to me it's very self-evident. I did get into the habit easily, and now it's come to the point that when I ride om my 125 cc scooter to and from work (it goes upwards of 60 MPH / 100 KPH) I often have this awkward feeling "now where is that seatbelt".

But you wonder where the line should be drawn: seatbelts we all agree on, but motorcycle riding even with a helmet is extremely dangerous, maybe even more so than driving a car without safety belts. And what about those dangerous sports like hangliding. Should all that be forbidden too? And what about all those very unhealthy habits like smoking, excessive food and alcohol consumption. Or playing soccer on weekends, which causes a lot of injuries and resulting medical and time-off-work costs. Anyway, back to the topic.
