Convertible top
« on: October 02, 2008, 13:12:34 »
Hi all I was looking for a place that sells the braided cable tensioners that are on each side of the convertible top.  I am in the process of replacing mine but the cables are holding me up. Thanks

Try Gernold at SL Tech. It's SLTechW113.com

May I suggest you try your local Mercedes dealer? They might just have it at a reasonable price. If they do, your parts will be the real thing, not used or after-market.

I am in the process of restoring my 1971 280 SL. I have found MB dealer to be very helpful and bought numerous 280 SL parts from them. The thing about buying parts from MB dealer is they fit just right.

Binod,

Gernold is a Pagoda soft top specialist who is ridiculously fussy about his parts and a true enthusiast for this particular model, so you're in good hands with him. I assure you he knows more about these tops than any dealer.

I also recommend Gernold.  He is a specialist in all things Pagoda.

Doug:

I am sorry, I did not mean any disrespect to Gernold. I apologize if my response gave that impression. I was merely expressing what I normally do.

Thanks.

After going to the dealer the parts guys there were inexperienced in dealing with older cars.  I did however get some help from Ray at budsbenz.  He gave me a direct replacement with an updated part number unlike the NLA answer I received from the parts guy.  The cable is availiable from Mercedes but the part number new.  Thanks for the help in this matter.  I will be picking them up this week. I am looking forward to seeing it assembled.

Sorry for the delay.  Had surgery and wasnt able to get to the computer.  The part number for the cables is 107-770-0066.  Before I start the install does anyone have any pointers I should be aware of.  Thanks and I hope I helped some of you.

I used a crochet hook to thread mine through. Worked a treat.
