Here are some photos of the ongoing engine rebuild on my 68 280sl - notice what's in the shop behind the 280 motor on the floor.

Thanks for sharing. So what shop is doing the work? Looks mighty impressive.

The shop is Scott Melnick's Auto Engineering and Classic Mercedes Benz in Malibu.  Scott is great to work with.  He is also installing a suspension upgrade kit he designed with the assistance of a former AMG guy.  I've driven another car with the kit installed.  It is amazing and I can't wait to get my car back.  The machining/rebuild of the motor was done at Metric in Canoga Park.

The motor and suspension work is complete.  My car is scheduled to be picked up in Malibu tomorrow and delivered to me in Spokane on Saturday morning.  I can barely wait. A few more pictures.
