Looking for my "66 horizon blue" in the Netherlands
« on: January 08, 2009, 06:26:32 »
Last year I sold my Horizon Blue pagoda in San Francisco and the car was shipped to the Netherlands in the spring of 2008.   I miss the car dearly and will a pay premium to get it back.

Please help me find my family jewel as it was purchase by my Aunt over 37 years ago.  I thought I could simply find another one but I want the car i grew up in and first learned to drive.

Thanks,

Larry

Larry, how was the car sold?  Did you sell it locally or perhaps on ebay.  Was it purchased by an individual or to a company that later sold the car?  In any case good luck on your quest.

Larry,

indeed, it would help if you have some details on who bought it... shipping company, individual. And more details on the car (type, year of registration, any other particulars, VIN). PM me those details and I'll look. I can't guarantee anything, as there are lots of Pagoda's here in Holland. If the buyer is an individual and not a member of any clubs, it will be hard to find too...

Have you looked in the car registry on the off chance?

Thanks for the responses.
Attached is a picture of the car the day I sold it to Roy at OURSL.com last April in the San Francisco Bay Area.  The car was totally restored in 2008 ($30K plus it cost me) and has a matching hardtop and navy blue soft top.   The VIN is 014630230SL.

Again

Thanks

Perhaps Roy Spencer can broker a deal between you and the buyer?  Might be worth a try.

For a second there I thought I had spotted your car... alas:

or

or

However, you may want to contact him given his like of Horizon Blue Pagoda's... http://www.geevers.nl/2008/index1.asp

No luck yet.

Does anyone know if the Netherlands has a DMV?  Can I pay someone to run a VIN search for me?

Larry,

I've had a look for you. In the Netherlands, the RDW controls the issue of licence plates and registrations. Once a car is imported it is put on licence plates and that registration number remains with the car until the car is scrapped, wrecked or exported. Once you know the registration of the car, it's very easy to get access to some of the details (for free)... go to the following page and enter my registration: DH-12-79

https://www.rdw.nl/Ovi/Paginas/Default.aspx

The tabs at the top give more pages of information. What it does not tell you is the VIN, or the contact details of the owner, for privacy reasons.

I had a look to see what RDW will povide you with: but I'm sorry, it's all in Dutch.

http://www.rdw.nl/nl/voertuigeigenaar/het_kentekenbewijs/het_document/uw+_gegevens_in_het_kentekenregister_inzien.htm

Basically, what it says is that if you are the owner they will look-up and provide you with all of the details they have on record (including past owners). They will verify your ownership by looking at the current ownership records and if you are not the same person, then you will have forfeited your fee (€ 4,90) and still get no info.

So I'm afraid that's a dead end... as far as I can tell there is no (legal) way in the Netherlands to go from VIN - to licence plate - to owner.
