Color combinations
« on: January 17, 2009, 17:05:09 »
Does anyone know if MB has statistics regarding production/exterior paint numbers? I was curious if we could find out just how many 230SL's, 250SL's and 280SL's were produced with what colors. Some car manufactures will make this information readily available if they have it.

John:

Merecedes has a record of the colors of just about every postwar car produced but I believe these are only on each car's datacard. I have never seen, in a book or elsewhere, overall staistics of car colors from Mercedes.

Diving into the void a while back, I made a count of cars in our Car Registry to come up with some rough estimates of the percentages of exterior colors.

The count can be seen on the first page (page 3) of the link message below:

Thank you Richard. I remember your topic and put my two cents in at the time. Would it be of interest to our members if we could document the original paint code production numbers for the 230SLs, 250SLs and 280SLs? We could start with the cars in our registry. I would be willing to gather the info. I just don't know where to begin!
