Recommendations for soft top adjustment - NYC
« on: January 21, 2009, 21:47:45 »
Hello everyone,

I have just had a new softtop installed on our freshly restored 1970 280SL, and despite assurances from the installer that he had done this for several pagodas in the past, the top was not properly adjusted or shimmed up and is only barely operational with great force.  I have no confidence in bringing it back to the installer and after reviewing the forum postings on the adjustment would rather find someone who knows what they are doing rather than expose the pagoda to further risk.

Can anyone make a recommendation in the New York City area of someone that can properly adjust the top to operate as it should?  Can you estimate what an adjustment may cost?

Thanks,
Donald

NYC is a wasteland for Vintage Auto-restoration; I think I know who did yours :'(
----------------------------------------

Go to ARI, they have done about 30 SLs

They restored my SL & put in a new German CanvasTop as well.

They are about 1.25 hrs away from NYC off I-95 ; and you can leave it there and take Metro North back from Stratford station.

Ask for Kent Bain & tell them Kayvan sent you.....

So Donald...

Were you the one that hired a pagoda for a catalog shoot?  J. Crew if I remember correctly.  Now it sounds like you are a fellow owner.  As you can imagine we all salute your excellent taste and hope to see more pagodas in print and film  ;D
