Brake Master Cylinder

I am replacing the brake master cylinder on "Maude", 1965 230 SL serial number 11304210011426.

Would car #11426 have the first or second version of the tandem master cylinder?  If you buy a master cylinder, how can you tell at the store, if you are getting a 1 or 2 version master cylinder?  The new cylinder came with a new o-ring to seal at the booster but did not come with a new plug.  Should I be concerned?  Cannot seem to be able to buy a new plug.  Have new o-rings on order to the join the reservoir and MC.

If you use the 1963 parts catalogue, what is the length of the steel brake line on page 64 part #176?  I am replacing the LR brake cylinder. The steel brake lines are already made up and almost free at "PARTS STORE", Ottawa.

The master cylinder changed from chassis # 008144.
The earlier one has been superceded to the later one which now fits all 230s.
It should have a 15/16 inch (23.81mm) bore and the Merc part # is 001 430 6301.

Since I must be a sucker for punishment, I ended up bending all my own brakelines.....L.R. brakeline was about 18" long (unbent).

Could you post more details for this parts place in Ottawa?

Our cars are really close together (mine 011245); was your car also ordered by a Canadian dealer? I would like to get more history on mine, and would like to locate the original dealership.

The plugs are grommet like rubber attachments that attach to the legs of the brake fluid reservior.  They join and or seal the resevior to the master cylinder.  The store that has the great deal on steel brake lines for the pagoda model is "PARTSOUCE" - all one word.  The store has no web site.  It is a subsidiary of Canadian Tire.

The 430mm line should work perfect for your LR brakeline.  Use a piece of string to measure the length of the old line, and then you know whether you can use it as an exact template or not.

Was your car delivered to a Canadian dealer?
