hringer's 230 SL and Pagoda meeting in Barcelona
« on: December 12, 2003, 10:54:08 »
Hi Group,
here you have some pictures from that Pagoda event in Barcelona:
The Spanish Mercedes-Benz Club invited Mr. B
hringer and his rally 230 SL to attend their stand in the "Auto Retro" classic car show, in order to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Pagoda and its greatest racing victory: the '63 Spa-Sofia-Li
ge rally. And this was possible thanks to the the management of Mr.Rolli (MB Museum director).
The Spanish MB club also organized a Pagoda meeting just in front of the main entrance of "Auto Retro", and 16 Pagodas -three of them, Spanish Full Members of our Group- (plus 6-7 of his "sons" R107) took part in it.
Hope you enjoy it, in the first photo, you can see Mr.B
hringer with the second issue of "Pagoda World"  :)  (the newsletter of our Group), which included an article about his victory. Mr. Eugen B
hringer is a very nice person and he was very kind with everybody.

hello!
Beautiful weather, beautiful meeting with Herrn B
hringer , beautiful cars.
Surely it's a shame I could not come. On the foreground there's a french Pagoda coming from 06, that means Alpes Maritimes, region of Nizza, isn't it?
Did the owner come all the long way from Nizza to Barcelona just for the week-end? Some people are very efficient, congratulations!

Outstanding, Albert! That first photo is priceless. I assume the pen he's holding was used for a signature, correct? Does that mean that you have an autographed copy of Pagoda World?

Hi Doug,
Unfortunately I only had one issue of Pagoda World at that moment, so I thought that I had to give it to Mr.B
hringer and then ask him for a picture with the magazine... I thought that the photo was a better memory than the autograph, above all because I already had two autographed models of his car (Anson 1:18, and Minichamps 1:43), an autographed postcard, and an autographed Mercedes-Benz Classic magazine (Issue 2, with the report of his car), so...
Mr.B
hringer now has a Pagoda World issue in his collection  :)

Hi Pierre,
Yes, I guess that 230 SL is from Niza, but that car was bought by a Catalan member of our Group. It still shows its French plates, but the car actually lives in Barcelona... although it gave an "international touch" to the meeting  :)

Albert:
Great job on getting Eugean Bohringer picture holding Pagoda World. Does Herr Bohringer still own the 230SL or was it sold ? I would like to now what type of driving or fog light are on the front bumper of his car? I would hope some day to meet Mr Bohringer as he is a legend in Rally driving and a figure in his own right in the automotive world.

Did some one ask Herr Bohringer about his rally 300 fintale mercedes-Benz. I read an article about how he partisapated for a classic show of cars sponsered by Mercedes-Benz. A very nice car from what I read in the Mercedes-Enthusiast. I wonder what is favorite the 230SL or the 300 Saloon?

Hi Bob,
The Mercedes-Benz Museum is the owner of that rally 230 SL. Mr.B
hringer was an official Mercedes-Benz driver, so I guess he always raced with factory cars. Mr.B
hringer told us that his current cars are: a 500 SLC (C107), a red 300 SL Roadster (W198 II) (chasis #6, a pre-series car specially made for racing), and a Smart City Coup
 :)
He told us that the central light was a strong light for long distance, and the other two lights were to light up the corners and ditches.

Hi Bob,
his usual racing car in those days was the 300 SE "fintail", but he chose the 230 SL for the Spa-Sofia-Li
ge because he thought the Pagoda was better for that kind of rally... so the answer could be: it depends on the race  :)
He told us that with the "fintail", in some stages of the Argentinian rally, he reached average speeds of 206 km/h (129 mph)! [:0]
