« on: March 27, 2009, 22:42:49 »
Hi,

I have this switch on a 1967 250SL, It has a Hella number on it 2535. Is it factory or after market. I'm just starting to work on getting my Pagoda running,,, and this switch is bothering me,,,

Not sure, but I don't think it is  regular OEM. Just a guess; since Hella makes fog lights and other electrical items, could it control an add-on accessory? Does your car have (had) fog lamps?

I think that's an early hazard light switch.

Hello,

Yes, I have seen these on other MB models of the era.  Not sure it was factory installed or just an era correct aftermarket option?  Here is a photo of the Bosch option #462 auxiliary rear fog lamp. Not sure which switch it used?

Douglas is right: I've seen that switch mounted under dash (sometimes through dash), closer towards the driver-side door, and wired into the harness to enable hazard blinkers (all four blinkers in synchronicity).

The red material is translucent, and there should be a little bulb that lights up within the switch when it is pulled (light blinks along with hazards).

I have a similar switch for my driving lamps.

Could one of you post a picture of this installed in your car, and with more detail.  I have never seen this before and it seems odd that the knob wouldn't match the theme of the other knobs (at least so it appears in the original post).   I have noticed when I've had the lower dash padding off that there are holes under the upholstery that would easily accomodate additional switches...

Since this switch had fallen apart, I looked at the innards, and couldn't figure out why they were some complex, then douglas mentioned that it might be the hazard light switch, and it dawned on me, the innards are the flasher control. Might be on the euro version because hazards were first introduced in the mid 60's

And this switch is causing you to offer your car for sale ? You'll need to post much more information if you want to sell it, including why you're selling it so shortly after buying it...

I noted in the picture of your car in the "for sale" section, that you do have fog lamps. How are these controlled?
