Fuel Pump protecting cover

Hello All,

I realized a few days back that the "bucket" (I'll call it that for now) that is supposed to be protecting the fuel pump on the lower driver side, next to the fuel tank, is missing. I'm not sure if this can be replaced or how does it even work. I haven't looked much into it to be honest, and nor have I done sufficient research with the aid of the search tool, so please excuse me if this has been recently addressed.

So, can someone shed some light on this? Was this standard issue on all models, or maybe an option? Is this part hard to come by?

This "bucket" was standard issue on all the early cars. The later cars have a different boxy-looking partial cover. I don't think the "buckets" are available anymore, although I recall some years back that someone had created reproductions at an exorbitant price (well, by my standards at least).

You need one of these:

This one with the 2 holes for fuel lines is correct for the early 'long' fuel pumps.
They tend to be 'cut up' somewhat when the later shorter fuel pumps are fitted

They appear on German ebay from time to time...

I bought a used one that had been repainted (quite nicely too) on US Ebay years ago for around $50, for the newer-style pump, after I realized it was missing on my car. It then sat on the garage shelf for a few years, until I finally installed it last summer. It looks a bit cleaner, but in terms of real protection I think you have to travel very rough gravel roads for it to make a real difference.

Thanks for the information guys. I was more concern with originality than protection, although the roads out here in Arkansas are either brand new or completely horrible, no middle of the road tarmac.

I'll look this up on ebay.
