Getting my 250SL Euro into specs -with video
« on: April 24, 2009, 14:38:23 »
This thread will document my attempt at getting my Pagoda to run as it should. I should have video'd her before messin' around with the linkage, but I didn't think to.

Here's a video taken today 4-24-09

www.benzbonz.biz/video/250slstart-short.wmv

As you can see, she's running a little rich, but nowhere near as bad as she was before on the 8 yeaar old gasoline in the tank,,,

I omitted the part of the original video where I conenct two wires to energize the fuel solenoid on the IP.

I 've got new plug wires on order, along with a water pump. Right now the car has bosch platinums, I bought some NGB's, just waiting for the wires.

Fixed the tail light,,, took her for a ride today (first since tightening up the linkage), still the black smoke,,,BUT, she stalled after warming up, idled down to 500 RPM, so atleast I know my WRD is working. Also spits and sputters and not very smooth under moderate pedal. I'm going to keep this thread alive, by posting pictures and rehabilitation info as I dwell into the M129 engine, comments i.e suggestions are welcome.

I also cleaned the seat sliders, what a PITA to re-install the seats, but now they move freely,,, (I used brake cleaner to clean them and then white lithium grease)
as far as the slop in the linkage,  I found a couple of the ball receptors and replaced the ones, I need two new ball sockets to make it right) Also improvised a circ-clip retainer for the linkage cross-bar.

Other mundane tasks,,, cleaned wheels, reinstaled passenger seat, degreased engine, cleaned windshield, and polished front chrome

first things first,,, before and after pictures,,,

Started her up again, very slight black smoke, unfortunately the light rain prevents me for going for a spin. Maybe tomorrow,,, will post another video to compare to the first.

Took her for a ride (not the wife, mother of my children, she wouldn't be seen in a car without a hood on it, me I'm troubleshooting the car and the hood won't be put back on until I'm satisfied I'm done under it) I would have to say excessive black smoke when cold, and then she stalls at idle after warming up. Here's another video,,, any help in hot idle adjustment would be appreciated,,, I had to press on the gas pedal for her to start even, as soon as I released teh pedal, she stalled. I do think that the black smoke went away after warm-up.
