Hello all.  My name is Allen Harvey and I live in NE Pennsylvania.  Last summer I completed the restoration of a 1964 230SL. 

It took seven years of continuous effort.  This was a 100% DIY project and I have become intimate with every component and aspect of the car.  I have restored it as faithfully as possible. 

It will not compare to a truely original collector car, but it runs excellent and drives well.  I am proud to drive it.

It is a 4spd manual.  My first attempt at an introduction was foiled because the picture was too large and I lost my entire text.  For some, unfortunately, the original engine was replaced with a 250.  I find it pleasing to drive.  Lighter car, a motor with more torque.  Its installation, at this point, is hard to tell from original, only you folks would notice.

I would post more photos If I can find how to do it without using only thumbnail size pictures.

But when I click on your thumbnail it enlarges to a nice size anyhow.

Thanks for the comments.  I didn't start off taking many photographs because I was embarassed of the starting condtion, a genuine NYS winter beater.  After I clompleted the first section, I got the dumb idea that I could do this.  Sorta like the little train that thought he could.

I o have a scrapbook of pictures, need to find out where to post them, if anyone would have a desire to see them.  They are very scarey pictures!  I never let someone see them before they ride in the car.

The original color code is for Moss Green Metallic.  The paint store wasn't able to find the mix for this color in urethane, I didn't want to use enamel, there was a match in the data base there.

I am attaching a picture of an area that showed an example if the cars original condition.  Maybe you can see why it took 7 years.

WoW!  You have my respect already. 
Too bad you waited till after your car is finished to start posting!  That is part of what makes this forum so useful and interesting is to see everyone's projects, start to finish.  And to add to the Wiki, which you could have gone to town with. 
Now you're just going to have to do another

Posting Photos:

While it is possible to link to a large image on a remote website this is not encouraged. Many remote links are eventually broken and the posted message becomes useless. You can see examples of broken links as you wander through some of our older messages.

Suggest that a large image be reduced in size and uploaded here directly. Once an image is uploaded it will be "permanent".

Two suggestions: set the digital camera to take a smaller format photo or use one of the free image size reduction programs available on the web. A size of about 750 to 850 pixels along the longer side will be large enough for a good size image when viewed.

If more help is needed, contact the Admin or one of the Moderators.

Richard, Thanks for the information.   I reduced the photo size to make the post on the picture I posted.  Wher do you suggest I post the pictures, just in as massage in the Picture section? 

I am not sure what to post.  I have a lot of ugly rot I could expose and the after pic's as well. but is anyone really intersted.  It seems the majority prefer pristine, unrestored views.  Is there a segmet of folks who have done some serious work to prevent one of these classices from either totally disolving of being destroyed?

Doing this car myself, I learned so much in technique for tough areas through mistakes and intensive thought I could help make someone's project a bit easier.
