Need a picture of the Driver side inner fender
« on: May 04, 2009, 16:58:12 »
I am in the process of completing my motor replacement and I painted the inner fenders without taking a very detailed picture of the drivers inner fender.  I would like a photo of a 1965/1966 automatic 230sl if possible.  I would like to see how all the relays attach properly and what type of fasteners were used.  Thanks in advance.

Ok this answers some of my questions although I have a small round canister style relay and not 3 square ones on my 230sl.  What type of fasteners are used ? Does someone have a picture from the side of how and what they are mounted with? Thanks for all the help on this.

Ok, These are the relays on my ex-230.

The dust needs blowing off and I'm not sure the screws are right either.

Part #s for the correct screws:

3x N 007981 003249 1 for wiper relay and 2 for mixture enrichment relay (mounted with rubber buffers)
1x N 000000 000459 Cylindrical relay

Hope this helps

Hi Jesse. Here is another for comparison. Cannot say its "original" but its been this way a long time! The larger relays have rubber washers that I recall are hard to find... Wife and daughter are heading to San Fran today with the camera! or I'd shoot a close-up...

Wow I didnt know there was so many combinations here.  Thanks for the photos. Since I only have 3 relays I will follow Naj's picture unless there is some one with a car that is totally original that happens to different.  I am trying to get this car as correct as possible.  Thanks alot for all the help.

So, it looks like mine and Naj's last pic are similar -- except I have one more. Guess its time I learn what each one is! Naj can you decipher? I figure a cold start relay, a fuel mixture relay, wiper relay and ????

Not a 230 SL, but early 1967 250 SL.  Might help.

Jesse,

Here's a pic from quite an original car.
This is a great photo.  Thanks I believe it was painted because my car had a circular area cleaned off for the ground cables.  Thanks for this shot.

One second relay for CSV, Wiper relay, One of the two rubber mounted relay operates the mixture enrichment solenoid on the FIP while the second one is controlled by the thermo time switch to operate the csv, but Im not sure which is which. If I'm wrong, no doubt somebody will correct
