Help re body panel gaps
« on: June 02, 2009, 04:07:55 »
When I bought my 230 SL thirty years ago all four fenders (wings) had been replaced and the panel gaps are not perfect. Presently the body has been completely stripped in order to replace rusted side rails and floor panels. A fresh paint job is planned, but before painting is a good time to try and improve the panel gaps.

In a thread posted by waltklatt in March 2005 one poster states that 3/16" is the proper hood gap. Another states 4.0mm.

My search uncovers no information or measurements regarding door gaps or trunk lid gaps.

Could someone with an original, unmolested 113 help me here? Is 4.0mm the standard for doors and trunk lid as well? (It isn't the case on my car).

Thanks in advance - Mait

I have heard 4mm all round. Happy to be corrected...
