Fuel Filter part numbers

I just received a fuel filter from Bud's Benz.  The filter is a Mann part no. BFU 707. Can this be used instead of the Mann P707?

I think YES.

The P707 is a paper filter and usually used for 'petrol'
The BFU 707 is a diesel filter with white cloth-like filtering element.
I think the latter is a finer filter and I have used them before. When I first got my car, MB supplied me with a similar filter but not MANN.

Hello,

I have seen these switched around without consequence.  They are exactly the same size.  I always use the gasoline one since I do not know the flow rates of the two. The upper and lower  filter seal rings on the two are  different. The gasoline has felt seals, the diesel had  rubber-like seal rings. It would be interesting to hear what the manufacturers take on this is.
