I have not finished the work on my 1971 280SL yet, but the other day  took it out of the garage for a photo session.

When I bought it, it was blue with white interior. It is now back to the original 180 Silver metallic with red MB Tex interior.

The things that stops me from getting it registerd and taking it for a drive are
 - fuse no.1 keeps blowing
- idle is too high, and the idle adjust on the FIP is turned as far ccw as it will go, (without spinning with the rotor)
- The interior has to be finished, - after i locate the reason for the fuse blowing

Looks very nice. The red sure pops in that Norwegian sunshine.

RE your hang-ups -- have you checked and double-checked linkage measurements?  I'd do that first -- then maybe consider removing a shim? As for the fuse, using the wiring diagram, you should be able to trace everything to number 1 and test things? Take an aspirin first.

I've had the linkage disconnected and the "bleed" air filter off. It seems to suck in a lot of air at the FP. When I blank off this air (with my thumb) it settles down, but I suspect it is running very rich.

The fuse I think I can solve. I had the same problem after first assembly of the dash. I suspect something around the clock.

I just have to work methodically following all the advice in this site, both for the fuse and the idling.

Vacuum leak perhaps?  How high is the idle?

Seems like the sliding valve (below the inj pump thermostat) controlling the cold start is stuck open  ???

Can be removed and cleaned up.

I've had it open and it is nice and free. On the other hand I have not had the engine hot enough to be sure that the thermostat should have shut off the air.

It is not leaking from the brake servo, that is new. The rev.counter registers over 2000 in P and N. It drops to 1200 when I engage gear.
I am not sure the rev. counter is accurate, though. I doesn't sound like 1200 to me. And there is no severe jerking when I put it into gear.

I like that color combo too. It's classic Mercedes. I couldn't have been happier when I saw the data card and got confirmation.
The blue car had a silver dash, so I had an indication what the original was.
