Luxury horse and workhorse....

SL's are my favorit workhorses for many, many years. Its not only a very comfy car,
its also very reliable. In spite of heavy duty in summer and winter, they never let me
down, neither my R107, R129 or R230. I drove them all over 250.000km: the R230
has "just" done 130.000km.

But the luxury horse is still my Pagoda; even my grand-daughter agrees: she says
hello to you all, head over the top.

I wish my biggest problem on a Saturday morning was to choose which SL to drive.

which 107 do you have?

Rob: dont misunderstand me: I kept the SL's for a number of years, but it was a pity
just to own the R107 and R129, without any chance to drive them anymore. So: the
R129 was sold first and the R107 some years later, after a boring duty as "pin-up" in
my office. It was a 450SL from 1975. I guess I am one of the few who had (and still
has) a car as showcase right in my office.

I hope the Pagoda does not blame me for exposing 2 pictures if the R107, here in this
forum, where you can see its suffering in my office.

BTW: i kept the original wheels for the show; I always drove with Borbet-wheels.

No problem with the pics.  I kid my wife i'm going to get a collection of sl's,   glad to see you have done it.  
I had originally wanted an 107 and when my pagoda presented itself, was to good a car to pass by.  I do look forward to one day aquiring a 107  560sl,  and of course keeping the 230sl.

Have you run out of Garage space that u keep it "in" the office

No Rob, I am not really out of Garage-space, but there were a few reasons to say
goodbye to the 450SL. One of the reasons is my son, running the office now: he
thought it would be more appropriate to show off a sponsered racing car, in use
only for hill-climbing events. Another reason was, for me, more important: my
wife got spine-problems in 1994. She still felt comfy in the Pagoda and R129, but
not in the R107 anymore. The R107 seats are not the best parts of this car, they
are kind of wobbly under your bottum and give just a few side-support. So: she
refused to get in it anymore.

Did you ever drive R107?

Hallo Leo,

Nice Pagoda! When I am in my second home, the pagoda is garaged in a way I can look at her when cooking in the kitchen. It gives a special feeling being the car part of your household.

Greetings to Sitterd, where (in Ophoven) as a child I used to come from Stramproy almost weekly to visit my grandparents.

Let me tell you a little story.

I am not a native from Sittard, but lived there, as a boy, in a room at the Agricolastraat.
If you look at a map, you can see that its a kind of frontier from Ophoven.

One day, in 1967, I saw a brand-new Pagoda, driven by a woman, passing the Agricolastraat.
Seeing that beauty, I promised myself such a car, one way or another.

Many, many years later, when I drove already R107, I encountered the Pagoda from  1967.
Yes, the one I once met at the Agricolastraat. That was for me the sign to forfill my
promise, and that is the Pagoda you see at the pictures. Original from Sittard, sold by the
dealer out of Geleen.

Just for fun I add a picture from the engine, revisted by this guy.
