Front seats

Hi I have just purchased a lovely Gun metal grey 280 November   1970 with 73,000 original miles it had only been averaging 250 miles a year for the last 8 years so I was a little worried to have to drive it 550 miles home from where I picked it up !!
I was really pleased that as my journey progressed through the Welsh country side the car drove better and better and I am really pleased and impressed with it now having the car a week and having covered a total of 800 miles I am finding the seats a little low and uncomfortable is it possible to replace the seats with ones from the latter 107 model with the head rests ? I don't know about R107 seats, but I'm sure someone will speak up. This post http://www.sl113.org/forums/index.php?topic=10620.msg71341#msg71341 has a picture of a Pagoda with SLK seats. The guy said it was a fairly easy job to put them in, just drill another couple of holes in the new seat track.

But why would one want to "butcher" an original 73K miles Pagoda?
Upholster the seats is a better way, IMO.

Best is to have the seat rebuilt and reupholstered. You can then get headrests added to the original W113 spec that was available from about 1970 on in UK. I had this done about 4 years ago. Unbelievable. Seats are nice & firm and the headrest look and work great. Here's a picture

Someone here (in Aus) put C class seats in his. Looked good, IMO and if you can get matching leather, all the better. Keep your old seats though in case you sell the car.

Original seats in proper repair are quite firm and comfortable.  I'd opt for rebuilding original.

I would rebuild the seats.  I did mine last year, new horsehair pads are still available from MB, and you can get leather seat kits that fit like a glove.  It did mine myself, not a big to do, anyone can do it.

On the other Pagoda site there was a posting from Poland about his Father's SL.  It was a silver car with perhaps a parchment or cream interior.  He and his father had done most of the work on it.  I remember reading that he had wished it had the original seats.  I can't remember the entire story but I believe the seats were from a 107 and it did have a smaller headrest.
