I am in the process of constructing a hard top hoist. My brothers back is acting up and he won't be able to help me anymore with that procedure. After combing through all the posts on this site I was most impressed by Raymond's version. If he is still around I have a question for him : Where do the curved bows that support the top through the open windows end up resting against without damaging the headliner. The pictures show that you successfully avoided contact with the weather stripping.
Am I correct that the tip of the bows are placed on the seam of the headliner where it touches a metal seam that runs the entire length inside the hard top ? It seems that with sufficient upholstery on that bow end the headliner will not get damaged ?!
On another front, I initially designed a set up utilising numerous pulleys, clamps, rods, come-alongs, and what have you....looked really good on paper, but when I priced it out it came to $165.- !! That is when I went to the Canadian Tire Store and bought a electric winch for half that.
There was enough stuff around my shop to fabricate the frame for the hoist, as per your instructions, with no other purchases necessary.
Now I am just nervous about how to attach it to the hard top, I don't trust the clips that attach to the chrome trim outside the window seals as other members suggested. The simplicity of your design really sold me on that one, so Raymond if you please could shed some light on that last detail I will be home free to finish my project.
