Soft top cover 911
« on: September 26, 2009, 15:43:58 »
My soft top cover was stuck on the passenger side.  I used the Wiki, found the access hole in the trunk and got it open.  I posted a question on an older thread what to do after but had no response.

Got the cover open

examined the movement of the three latches

latch on right had little movement

gave the cable adjustment about half a turn

closed the lid and once again was stuck (left side)

another quarter turn

closed the lid and would not latch at all

now the two latches on l and r seem to have rolled back and the hooks are not visible

What do I do now?

........takes one to know one!

In my case the return springs around the cable at the hookends twisted and restricted the hooks from operating properly. ( wow, that was a moth full...)
So, leave the cable attached to the hooks, but slip the disk that the other end of the spring rests in out of its resting place, therefor taking the tention of the hooks which should move freely now when moving the hooks by hand and not by cable. ( are you still with me.....?)

Now, lubricate the hook-hinges and play with the length and position of the springs. I had to shorten one and straighten the other one out by supporting it with some tie-wire to have it sit perfectly straight and not binding the cable operation.

So, there, hope that will solve your problem....let me know please.

I have a new cable on the way from the Classic Center.  I've started taking things apart but can't really see where to thread the cable through the left side.  I need to pickup a small mirror to get a better look.  If I run into any problems I'll post it here.
