The member profile is not very well organized.
ICQ, YIM, MSN, IM seem to have a handful of remaining users and take up a lot unused space.
Better Location choices like US, EU, Asia and US states could allow better organization of local events/referrals
Better info on demographics could allow a redesign of some site features....and increase membership
Kayvan... the supply of info in this section is entirely voluntary (except for Location, that's now being standardised for all new joiners, and Full Members). Age, sex, it's not compulsory. Actually, most non-US members have no problem supplying these details, it is the US membership that refuses to enter these details. If we were to ask for this info prior to joining, I'm sure that would actually
decrease membership, or people would enter made up values rendering any decisions you make based on them less useful. That's why these details are not compulsory. By the way, what was your reason for not entering these details?
The amount of space wasted on ICQ etc info in the database is actually less than 0.064% of the database space. Modern database systems store an empty field as a single byte. We have four of those fields. We have 1600 member records. Total space taken by these fields when empty is 6400 bytes. Our database is >100MB large. For me to remove that from the system would render our system incompatible with the base version, and we therefore would not be able to take advantage of upgrades and new versions developed. I therefore will not remove that info, and there would be no point in doing so.
What
specific redesign and site features do you have in mind? I have been monitoring and fine-tuning a lot of aspects on the site, but I'm always keen to hear of good ideas from someone else.
